Prerequisite for smart and sustainable use of our valuable forest assets is creating and strengthening local forestry and wood industry value chains from tree in forest to the final products with high added value by implementing cascading use of wood and circular economy.

Finally, forests can make a major contribution to carbon neutrality and sustainable development based on bioeconomy and a circular economy. This will require higher allocation of public funds for forests, forestry and timber industry, continuous adaptation of educational programs which are harmonized with current sectoral challenges, and recognition of decision-makers as a key factor in achieving Europe’s 2050 carbon neutrality targets.

Europeans, with only 4% of the world’s forests, receive 16% of the world’s timber and 27% of the other added value that forests provide globally.

Economic, ecological and social value of forests is not valuated and appreciated enough, so we are all responsible to recognize it, because forests deserve more.
