LignoLink Project – Development of the European Research and Innovation Network in the Field of Wood-Based Bioeconomy

LEIPZIG, 18.10.2018. – On 17th and 18th of October 2018, the LignoLink Project Initial Conference was held in Leipzig, organized by the Fraunhofer IMW Institute (Fraunhofer Centre for International Management and Knowledge Economics).
LignoLink is a project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Science coordinated by the Fraunhofer IMW institute and being implemented by 15 partners from 12 EU countries. Together with Croatian partners Competence Centre Ltd. for research and development and Spačva d.d., project partners also include Thünen Research Institute of Germany, German Cluster of Biochemistry, Estonian University of Natural Sciences, Institute for Research and Development of the Forestry and Wood Industry MEKA from Latvia, Poznan Wood Technology Institute from Poland, Zvolen Technical University from Slovakia, University of Applied Sciences Bern from Switzerland, Faculty of Forestry of the University of Belgrade from Serbia, Sopron University from Hungary, National Forestry University from Ukraine, National Institute of National Resources from Finland, Kaunas University from Lithuania and InnovaWood European Network. Project duration is from September 2018 to August 2020.

Use of renewable natural resources has an important role in protecting the environment and shifting the economy to natural resource-based economy. The innovative, efficient and sustainable use of natural resources is of great social, economic and ecological importance to mankind.

The main objective of the LingoLink project is the transformation of the European economies based on fossil fuels to bioeconomies and circular economy.

The LignoLink project emphasises launching and preparation of the European development and research projects in the field of bioeconomy based on raw wood material.

The LignoLink project links existing clusters and regions with scientific research capacities to apply existing knowledge in economies of central and eastern Europe.

During the two-day initial conference of the LignoLink project and the development of concrete development and research project ideas, Croatian partners were represented by Dr.Sc. Josip Faletar, President of the Wood Cluster SLAVONIAN OAK and CEO of Spačva d.d., Ivan Perković, Member of the Managing Board of Spačva d.d. and Dr.Sc. Ivan Ambroš, Director of Competence Centre Ltd. for research and development and Manager of Wood Cluster SLAVONIAN OAK.
