As part of the FOREST4EU project, an international study visit took place in the Alentejo region of Portugal from April 22 to 24, 2025. Over the course of three days, experts and representatives of operational groups from different parts of Europe gathered to exchange knowledge, experiences, and innovations in the field of agroforestry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The program began with a visit to the Freixo do Meio estate in Montemor-o-Novo, where participants had the opportunity to learn about an integrated agroecological model that combines organic farming, livestock, and forestry into a multifunctional and regenerative system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the second day, presentations were held by operational groups and experts from Italy, Germany, and Portugal, covering topics such as knowledge networks, digital tools for monitoring soil health, and agroforestry system management. Participants also visited the Azinhala estate, where they learned more about local sustainable management practices, and the day ended with a cultural tour of Alc\u00e1cer do Sal, with a special focus on the Pedro Nunes Museum and the Archaeological Crypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the final day of the visit, at the headquarters of the event organizer ANSUB \u2013 Associa\u00e7\u00e3o de Produtores Florestais do Vale do Sado, presentations were given by Portuguese operational groups, showcasing projects focused on the restoration of oak stands, oak forest nutrition and fertilization, as well as methods for monitoring their vitality and controlling pests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This visit highlighted the importance of international cooperation, knowledge transfer, and the joint development of innovative solutions for sustainable forest management, climate change adaptation, and the preservation of forest ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n
