As part of the Interreg Europe project NBS4LOCAL<\/strong>, a two-day Peer-Review<\/strong> visit was held, bringing together project partners and experts from across Europe to exchange nature-based solutions (NbS<\/em> Nature-Based Solutions<\/em>) for climate adaptation and environmental conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representatives from the City of Pula<\/strong><\/a> presented the Rain Gardens Project <\/strong>, an innovative solution that reduces flood risks and contributes to urban greening. These gardens, located in key areas such as King Tomislav Square in Pula, serve as a practical model for applying the NbS concept in urban planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representatives from the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Natural Areas of Vukovar-Srijem County<\/a> presented their Management Plan for Ecological Networks and Protected Areas of the Spa\u010dva Basin<\/strong>. This plan ensures the protection and maintenance of these areas while promoting their ecological significance and preserving their natural integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representatives from the Croatian Forests Ltd.<\/a> introduced their Forest Flow<\/strong> Project, aimed at restoring flood defense infrastructure and establishing a cross-border system to protect people and natural resources from flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the two-day event, participants visited two ecologically valuable natural sites:\u00a0Oto\u010dki Virovi<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Spa\u010dva Forest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oto\u010dki Virovi<\/strong>, known as the \u201cLittle Kopa\u010dki Rit\u201d, is a unique wetland oasis in the heart of Spa\u010dva Forest. As part of the Natura 2000 ecological network, it is home to a diverse range of plant and animal species, including rare and endangered species. Participants explored educational trails, enjoyed the natural beauty, and learned more about the importance of wetland ecosystem conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit to\u00a0Spa\u010dva Forest<\/strong>, the largest continuous pedunculate oak (Quercus robur<\/em>) forest in Europe<\/strong> allowed participants to gain insight into forest and land management practices. Covering over 40,000 hectares<\/strong>, Spa\u010dva Forest plays a crucial role in preserving biodiversity and mitigating climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event reaffirmed that nature-based solutions are key to a sustainable future.<\/strong> By sharing knowledge and best practices, we can work together to build and develop a world that exists in harmony with nature!<\/p>\n\n\n
