One of the challenges in wood mobilisation are small-scale wood units within long distance from roads. These units are not profitable for harvesting because of high costs and long-distance transportation. The answer to this challenge might lie in wood terminals where wood from multiple small-scale units in the same area would be gathered for intermediate storage.
In Lapland, a few big terminals have been built close to railway to advance the efficiency in wood transportation by train. Terminals exept for storaging used for collaboration between stakeholders and joint use of machinery and equipment available at terminals.
