Project objective

Revitalization of the forests of the Spačva-Bosut basin to preserve biodiversity and resilience to climate change.

 

Planned activities

• Baseline assessment – analysis of existing data
• Identification and preparation of pilot locations
• Development of a communication plan and identification of potential stakeholders
• Establishment of a joint cross-border groundwater monitoring system to foster resilience and adaptation to climate change
• Software for dynamic groundwater modelling and meteorological stations
• Upgrading of the barrier crown on the Bosut River near Lipovac
• Establishment of two stations for monitoring groundwater quantity and quality (piezometers 20 to 50 meters deep)
• Restoration of the ponds and/or canals
• Reconstruction of the sluice on the Bosut River
• Establishment of the Center for Climate Change Monitoring as a department within the Competence centre d.o.o. for research and development
• Validation and systematisation of results on exemplary and tested solutions
• Development of a Strategy to be adopted by the organisations
• Results of communication and dissemination

Expected project results

• Jointly developed action plan for implementation of activities to increase climate resilience in the Spačva-Bosut basin
• 7 pilot actions developed and implemented:

    - groundwater level monitoring system

    - software for dynamic groundwater modelling

    - meteorological stations

    - upgrade of the barrier crown on the Bosut River near Lipovac

    - restoration of of the ponds and/or canals

    - reconstruction of of the sluice on the Bosut River

    - Center for Climate Change Monitoring

• Jointly developed solutions:

    - established Center for Climate Change Monitoring

    - jointly developed nature-based solution (NbS) for mitigating extreme droughts based on existing infrastructure

• Developed strategy that will be based on presentation and dissemination of solutions and data exchange between local and transnational bodies, including the Forestry and Water Management Organisation, with an emphasis on multi-sectoral application.
