DRWO4.0: Pilot Environments Launched for the I4.0 Transformation of the Wood based Industry

In the heart of historic Pécs, Hungary, on February 4th and 5th, DRWO4.0 project brought together innovation, tradition, and a vision for the future of the wood industry. Under the framework of the DRWO4.0 project, entrepreneurs and experts from the sector gathered to jointly explore new opportunities for digitalization, cross-sector and cross-border collaboration, and sustainable development.

The first day began with the presentation of the DRWO4.0 project – an initiative focused on the digitalization and sustainability of the wood based industry in the Danube region, with a particular emphasis on three key Pilot Environments: PE West (WIC), PE South (CEKOM), and PE East (KO-FA/PRO-WOOD). These PEs serve as platforms for collaboration, knowledge transfer and the development of new ideas and solutions.

Moreover, participants visited local organ factory in Pécs, which uniquely blends centuries-old tradition with modern technology. Through this concrete example of best practices, attendees directly witnessed the successful application of innovative solutions in the wood industry.

The second day was dedicated to a meeting of project partners, during which future activities and the development of the pilot areas were thoroughly elaborated. Through dynamic discussions and the exchange of ideas, clear steps were agreed upon to push the wood industry towards a sustainable, digital, and competitive future.

The DRWO4.0 project, co-financed by European Union, Danube Transfer Programme, represents a significant step toward a sustainable and digital future for the wood-based industry. Through collaboration, knowledge transfer, innovation, and development, the project opens up new opportunities to enhance the competitiveness of the wood sector.
