In the heart of Calabria, in Serra San Bruno, an international study visit was held from June 23 to 26, 2025, as part of the FOREST4EU project. The event brought together leading European experts, researchers, and practitioners to collectively shape new directions for sustainable forest management and the enhancement of natural ecosystem services.
Participants had the opportunity to experience first-hand pilot projects such as FOR.TRACK and COM2MARCHE—solutions that are digitalizing forestry practices, connecting stakeholders, and enabling sustainable forest management. The technical innovations developed within these operational groups demonstrated how digital solutions and a multi-actor approach can transform European forests.
The true value of this gathering was revealed in the field: the practical part of the program included visits to forests around Serra San Bruno, where participants directly observed the application of innovative forest management methods and exchanged experiences with local experts.
A particular highlight was the interactive round table, where participants collaboratively tackled real-world challenges, discussed innovations, and explored opportunities for future cooperation.
Inspired by the experiences from Calabria, participants returned to their countries with new ideas and partnerships, ready to implement the solutions they have seen and drive positive change in their own environments. FOREST4EU continues to build a network of experts and innovators, paving the way for more sustainable, smarter, and better-connected forestry across Europe.
